Promise.
Our mission is to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide help for the first five days to those suffering the personal disaster of a house fire.
Promise
Our promise is no more than 25% of funds will be directed to administration and fundraising needs. We understand that it takes real people with real time and real skills to accomplish our mission. We recognize as we begin with limited resources this may not be possible. However as we grow we can reduce the percentage and promise to be transparent so you can see how your donation is being used.
How it started
Jim Rector, founder of Disaster Victim Services, has a restoration business (Dry Guys Restoration) that helps repair homes from fire, flood, storm, and mold damage. He noticed the bleak situation of those that suffer from a home fire. Out of his own pocket he would assist those that had no other options. He worked with local Hotels to provide the housing on his card. He provided funds to help them get a meal, get some new clothes for the evening, etc.. His goal was to help them get back to work knowing their family was taken care of.
He discovered other individuals and businesses willing to help with their contributions if there was a non-profit to accomplish it. Disaster Victim Services was founded to help bring these resources to those in need and have no where to look for help.
